Fellowship

Program description

The Fellowship is a training period program that lasts 6 months. It is addressed to foreign doctors who have the opportunity to learn the surgical techniques in breast reconstruction and in breast conserving surgery.

The program provides you with abroad range of reconstructive breast surgery as well as in head and neck reconstruction, limb reconstruction, facial reconstruction and Lymphedema surgical treatment.

Methodology

Training emphasizes advanced training in reconstructive techniques with a state-of-the-art technology, analyzing and determining the most suitable technique for a particular case; promoting scientific critical thinking; disseminating the appropiate information to patients and to their families and analyzing, evaluating and performing critical care research.

This facilitates the integration of multidisciplinary breast pathology committee, and on a voluntary basis will have access to the laboratory of experimental microsurgery in order to learn the skills for performing the microsurgical techniques.

The fellow takes part in surgical sessions, clinical sessions, bibliographic sessions, weekly committee breast pathology and laboratory experimental of microsurgery.

During this period, the specialist will work not only with plastic surgeons but also with other professionals such as oncologists, radiation oncologists or gynecologists.

The program for each fellow is tailored to that fellow's background and goals.

All fellows will have to complete a research project during their fellowship and enough time is provided for this purpose.

Requirements

The program is addressed to specialists in medicine and surgery who have already finished the program as residence doctors.

All candidates must be accredited as plastic surgeons.

Periods

Fellowships can do the training period program from January to June or from July to December.

  • Lateral thoraco-dorsal flap
  • Latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap with implant
  • Extended latissimuss dorsi myocutaneous flap
  • DIEP (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator)
  • SIEA (Superficial Inferior Epigastric Artery)
  • SGAP (Superficial Gluteal Artery Perforator)
  • Local perforator flap type TAP for breast conserving surgery
  • Contralateral symmetrization techniques (mammoplasty reduction, mastopexy, etc).
  • Lymphedema Surgical Treatment
